WHITEWOOD

  • Also known as American Poplar or Tulip Wood, this is our most widely used material.

  • The sapwood is creamy white and may show subtle streaks throughout.

  • Heartwood ranges from pale yellow-brown to olive green in tone.

  • The grain is straight with a smooth, medium-to-fine texture.

MAPLE

  • Unlike most hardwoods, hard maple is prized for its sapwood rather than its darker heartwood.

  • The sapwood ranges in color from white to cream, with occasional golden or reddish hues.

  • Its grain is typically straight but can also be wavy, with a fine, even, and smooth texture.

CHERRY

  • Cherry heartwood starts light pinkish-brown and darkens naturally over time.

  • Known for its excellent workability, cherry is a favourite among woodworkers.

  • It’s a stable material with a straight, smooth, and predictable grain.

  • Cherry can be tricky to stain, often resulting in uneven or blotchy finishes.

OAK

  • We commonly work with two types of oak: Red Oak and White Oak.

  • Red Oak has a reddish-brown tone, while White Oak leans more olive in color.

  • Both have a straight grain with a coarse, slightly uneven texture.

  • Strong, durable, easy to stain, and work with—they’re widely used for a reason.

WALNUT

  • Heartwood ranges from pale brown to dark chocolate with rich, darker brown streaks.

  • Colors can show subtle hints of grey, purple, or a soft reddish undertone.

  • Walnut is easy to work with when the grain is straight, tight, and consistent.

  • Though rarely stained, walnut takes clear finishes and darker tones beautifully.

HICKORY

  • Hickory is a strong, durable hardwood with excellent shock resistance and toughness.

  • The color ranges from pale cream sapwood to warm reddish-brown heartwood.

  • Its bold contrast and dramatic grain give it a rustic, character-rich appearance.

  • Though dense, it machines well with sharp tools and takes stain and finish evenly

MAHOGANY

  • Mahogany heartwood ranges from golden to deep reddish brown and darkens over time.

  • Quarter sawn boards often show a ribbon pattern with strong visual movement.

  • Other grain patterns include pommele, quilted, wavy, mottled, and fiddleback.

  • Its unique figure and color make it a popular choice for high-end design and millwork.

CEDAR

  • Cedar is lightweight, stable, and naturally resistant to decay, insects, and moisture.

  • Its color ranges from light reddish-brown to pinkish tones, often with pale streaks.

  • The grain is generally straight, with a fine to medium texture and a soft feel.

  • Known for its distinct, pleasant aroma and excellent performance in outdoor use.
